You MUST bear with me on this one. It's a little complicated.... but well worth the effort.
First, what is the ultimate penetration? Well, you're going to ask your audience member (Bob) to select a card through a process of elimination. Then, you are going to go to your deck, find the card, and pass 'Bob' completely through the card! |

How is this possible? Read on...
First, choose a card that you would like to force on your victim. You will have to 'gaff' this card before the trick, but I will tell you how... Second... get a sheet of paper a write this: A - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - J - Q - K. Now, draw or spell out Heart, Diamond, Club and Spade. This paper will help you force a card without actually using your deck. Ask Bob to look at the paper and pick four (4) cards, numbers only. Ask him to say his selections out loud, and as he names them; lets say the five, eight, nine, and Queen, draw a little circle around the chosen numbers. If the card you have gaffed is among those four. good! If your gaffed card, for example, is the Nine of Hearts, then you would say to Bob... " of those four numbers you picked... pick two, If Bob says the Five and the Queen, then you will mark through the five and queen on your paper and say "well, that leaves two.. the nine and the eight. Pick one of those.." If he says eight, mark through the eight and say " that leaves the nine ". If Bob picks the nine, then say " Good. The nine it is..." If your gaffed card was NOT among the first four picked, then after they are picked say " We will eliminate those four.. remember this is a process of elimination." Say to Bob " Now.. I need you to pick FIVE cards from the remaining cards." Circle each one as they are named. If your gaffed card is among these five then say.." are you SURE these are the five you want..?" When Bob says 'yes', mark through all the other numbers except the five named cards. Ask Bob.." of these five, I need for you to pick three." If your gaffed card IS among these, mark through the other two numbers and say " OK.. we get to eliminate these two. Now, of these three, pick two.." If your card is among the two, eliminate the odd card and mark it off your list... If you card is NOT among these two, then say " OK, we eliminate two more.. and we are left with one..." ( in this case, the nine..) If your card was NOT among these three, then mark these three off your paper and say " good, we get to eliminate three more, and now we are down to two.." Ask Bob to pick one, and if he picks your card say ' Good choice. You have eliminated all the cards but one." If he picks the other card, say " Good choice, you have eliminated the last card in a perfectly fair process of elimination, and now we are left with only one card... the Nine..." This process is called a MAGICIANS CHOICE,.. because you literally force your chosen card on Bob by either throwing out or keeping cards, depending on whether the card to be forced is in that stack or not... and you make the victim feel as if THEY picked the cards freely.. If your chosen card was NOT among the five chosen, mark through the five and say " five more eliminated, and now we are down to the last four.." Repeat the process I outlined above for FOUR cards and you will again arrive at your gaffed card. Once you are down to the Nine.. ask Bob to pick two suits of the four you have wrote down. If he picks two and one is YOUR suit, eliminate the other two. If not, then eliminate the two he chose and comment, " We are left with two..." Let him pick one and either eliminate it or keep it, depending on your need. WHEW !! We are down to the Nine of Hearts ! This is not nearly as complicated as it sounds. It is simply a 'keep it' or 'throw it out' force which is based on the fact that YOU know which card you need to force.. Now that we have forced the Nine of Hearts (for example), we need to look through the deck sitting on the table, remind Bob that HE chose the card, pick out the nine of hearts, open it up, pass it over Bobs head and body, and have Bob step out of it... WHAT ??? Take the card you are to force, and prepare it beforehand as follows: Fold the card in two by folding the left half and right half together (NOT from top to bottom). Hold the card flat with the fold toward your body. Take a pair of sharp sissors and make a small, straight cut- just a fraction of an inch from the edge of the card - from the fold toward the edge. STOP THE CUT before you get to the edge.. Now.. turn the card around and make another small cut -right next to the first- from the edge of the card ALMOST to the fold - but not quite ! Turn the card around and make another cut from the fold almost to the edge, and then another from the edge almost to the fold... Continue to cut the card in this manner the entire length of the card. When you have completed the cuts.. open the card and slip the point of the sissors OVER the first cut you made and CUT ALONG THE FOLD , stopping just before you get to your very last cut... Believe it or not... the card is ready for your trick to begin !! ( I strongly recommend that you practice this cut with a piece of paper about the same size as a playing card. Your first attempt doesn't have to be quite so precise... just get an idea of the 'technique'. ) Once done, you can take the outer edges of your card and pull on them, causing the card to 'open up' and forming a giant loop... big enough to actually step through.. When you have your playing card properly gaffed, place it in the deck near the bottom. It will not lay truly 'flat', but that is OK, since this is the type of trick that WILL get you a big laugh, and NOT one that will display your handling abilities. Ham it up and have fun !! This is a very effective trick, just as much at home at childrens parties as it is at adult gatherings. |

~ The Toothless Wonders Solid thru Solid ~
One of my favorite tricks with a coin. All you need is a bit of two-sided tape, available at most department stores and office supply type stores. Clear two-sided tape is an essential item in any magicians arsenal of weapons. If you don't have a roll, get one... Put a coin in your hand and keep it out of sight from 'Bob'. Ask Bob to hold his hand out, palm side down. Now, with one swift move, put your hand, with the coin, palm side down on top of Bob's hand, trapping the coin between your hand and the back of his. If you make this move in a nice, smooth manner... Bob will NOT feel you place the coin on the back of his hand. With your free hand, reach in your pocket, remove a coin identical to the one under your palm, and lay it on top of the back of your hand ( the one on top of bob's ). Announce that you are going to perform a solid thru solid, and make the coin penetrate your hand. What Bob doesn't know is that prior to the trick, you stuck a small strip of two-sided tape, about an inch long, to the palm of your free hand. With a quick 'smack', put your free hand on top of the coin resting on top of your other hand. Leave your hands in that position for a moment as you tell Bob to prepare for the magic to happen. S-l-o-w-l-y remove your free hand, with your fingers open and the coin secretly stuck to the double-sided tape. Keeping your hand low enough to keep Bob from seeing the coin, move this hand off to the side as you direct attention to your other hand by asking Bob if he feels anything unusual happening with his hand. Again moving slowly, lift your hand from his, exposing the coin laying on the back of his hand. Turn your hand over to show your palm empty... as you move your hand WITH the coin toward a pocket to dispose of the second coin. If, and ONLY IF Bob is a friend of yours, you can put a small drop of ketchup on top of the coin before placing it in your hand. Make sure the ketchup is between the coin and the palm of YOUR hand. After you expose the coin, comment to Bob that you are still trying to figure a way to make the coin pass through your hand without the mess.... I would NEVER perform this version on a stranger... unless you are prepared to begin performing as ' The Toothless Wonder..' |
